The mangrove snapper bite has been getting better. I have been boating some of the biggest snapper that I have seen in recent years. The deeper flats on the east side of the harbor have been producing some very nice trout some fish have been measuring over 20 inches.

The Gulf beaches of Sanibel and Captiva will hold a lot of snook throughout the entire month of July. Towards the end of June, there were many snook staged in the mouth of the river on their way to the beaches, so the numbers of snook on the beach will be increasing.

There is great catch and release snook and tarpon from Wiggins Bay to Estero Bay this month. Every day can be different; a variety of bait will insure success. Live threads or pins, big shrimp, cut lady fish, jigs and crank baits are a good choice.

We have fished in all areas of the lake this summer and have found that there are huge numbers of bass everywhere we have been. The north shore and its prolific eel grass beds are yielding big numbers of bass as well as big fish, although in the summer a south wind can quickly change everything by dirtying the water.

The hill tides were incredible in the month of June and I expect them to be just as good in July. Beach fishing and harbor fishing have been absolutely incredible and should stay that way for the next two to three months.

There still are some good numbers of Spanish mackerel in the harbor around the schools of bait. You might want to try a piece of light steel leader these fish are toothy.

Expect keeper size redfish around the oyster bars and at high tide, try under the mangroves. Look for bait and bird activity, fish are close.
