Recent trips are producing great fishing action using all the white bait Tampa Bay has to offer this time of year. Throwing top water plugs in the morning at first light on the flats has been producing some nice Redfish and Trout action.

The best grouper action will be in 150 feet or deeper for large reds or inside Tampa Bay for some nice gag grouper and Spanish mackerel. Kingfish and shark frenzies can happen at any depth where there is plenty of bait.

The water temperature will rise quickly as the day goes on. I like to get out and fish early before the water and air temperatures get to hot.

Since the water temperature is getting hot I have been having a good amount of success with dead Threadfins. Long cast are also a must since these fish are very spooky that’s why I use #2-10 Fins Braided line on a 2500 Daiwa Coastal reel matched with a Daiwa 8ft coastal series rod.
