When you see fish busting the surface like this try rattletraps or top water plugs. Shiner fishing has been good also with fish grouped up on outer grasslines from the north end of the lake to the south.

Dolphin (mahi-mahi or dorado) have arrived in great numbers and are here to stay for a while. Dolphins like to feed on bait that hide or find refuge under floating weeds or debris that’s out there.

Most fish are done spawning and are actively feeding and following schools of shad, and golden shiners. Keep your eyes open for brim beds and fish as this is one of the main forages for largemouth on Okeechobee.

Bringing a helium tank along will become a must for the coming months if kite fishing is in your plans. Don’t get me wrong; calm conditions are great as well. Anchoring up over good bottom structure or even over some of our well-known DERM public wrecks can be very productive.

Big kings are working their way down to us from the north and should be chomping hard any day now. Recently we’ve had kings up to 30 pounds caught on our regular kingfish rigs.
